Default Backfire out of intake

Hi there.
Posting up on behalf of a mate with an xj.
His car brike down last week. Tye problem sounds like timing. Idles really rough and want to stall. Sometimes does. If you give it gas it wants to stall. If you do manage to get it to rev you can hear it back fire out of the intake. Ive checked all leads and they fire plus are round the correct way. Same as my tj. Ive checked and cleaned all sensors. But only thing I can think of is timing

Dissy can be at fault as the shafts wear which throws out timing. Also the MAP sensor affects timing and mixtures. Not on gas is it? As they can backfire if they lean out.

Regards A

Timing, manifold air leak or split vacuum hoses. Check the pcv valve hose that comes out of the inlet manifold on a 90' angle. These are prone to splitting.

What year? I saw this on negdriver's '00 (coil pack model). Was like the timing was out. Reset of ecu fixed it.
