Default Xj Diesel converted to Toyota Engine

Hi All,

true die hard jeep fans, please forgive me

I have been offered for 1000 a XJ 2.5 Diesel from a neighbour. I know these engines are a VM engine and its the same engine used in Range Rovers for a time. You cant give one of them away.

I was thinking that it seems the AX151 gear box as the same bolt pattern as a Toyota Landcruiser.

Now here is where it gets real strange.

What are peoples thoughs on putting a 1HZ Landcruiser engine into the XJ?

Do you think it would fit?

Cheers and dont flame me.

I am just throwing it out there

I don't know if it would be legal but a 4.2lt diesel in a car that weighs 1500kg would have to be good but be prepared for a new rear diff due to the increased torque.
Is that a TD?

Like your thinking ....

But I think the weight and the size of the thing will probably be your biggest obstacles.

Of course if its an offroad project and not a street use vehicle ... anything is possible.

Great idea, though i don't think that the 1HZ will fit. It might be to long. The 2.5 is quite a good engine. People have put Detroit Diesels into the XJ. If anything why not one of Toyota's 4cyl TD's. No shortage of them.
Where abouts are you?
There is a 2000 XJ TD for sale on e-bay for $4000 with a noisy bottom end. I bought one for the same money with the engine in pieces. I got it for spares. Still tossing up what to do with it?

thought 4 cyl engine out of hilux might be good.

Seen one on Ebay, but a bit expensive I think. Seen others for a little more with engine a goer.

ANYtHING would be an improvment on the terrible VM lump.

Nothing wrong with swapping in a better engine, there is a long history of this in Jeepin circles.
The Yoda 4 would give you a reliable, economic donk with readily available cheap service parts.
DO IT !
