Twas a christmas miracle I say ........
After waiting to save up my pennies to replace the fuel pump module, because my ever reliable mechanic mate say's "there's ya problem" .......
Last week dutifully Installed said brand new module, with all the associated gnashing of teeth, test drove like a champion ..... for 500metres ..... limp home, said some words casting aspersions on the parentage of all and sundry ..........

After consulting FSM and many many many posts on this beloved forum .....

On Saturday removed IAC, cleaned it to within an inch of its life, well for 10 minutes anyway, re-installed ........

A Christmas miracle !!!!!!!!!!!

The beasty lives ..........

Who needs santy claus with such a precious gift !!!!!!!!!

A most merry, happy and safe festive season to all !!!

Of course the mechanic "did it". These problems only happen when my car goes to the workshop for a service and not a repair. Anyone who has an XJ is resigned to this problem unless you DIY.

To add insult to injury, I will be paying for "the repair" now.

Replaced the vac line on the PCV and tightened the exhaust manifold up (again). Think it needs a new gasket.
Also yesterday had the pleasure of doing another steering box bolt in a car park. Luckily still had a spare in the Jeep, but the other two are bent so will be looking hard tomorrow for a fastener shop that's open (not holding my breath). Thinking I should go with 10.9s this time round.

Drove the reverse of a week ago. 700 miles back over the Sierra Nevada mountains, but this time the temp was 0* F. About 300 miles left in the trip I blew out a u-joint in the rear shaft. Not sure what happened, but limped home and I'll figure out the damage in the morning.

Wrecked my auto trans, actually I think it's the torque converter

When running there's a whirling crunchie sound, when stopped with the motor running and foot on brake and in gear the noise is still there,

I'm guessing I will need a new torque converter, and if it's spewed metal through the trans I'm expecting to have to replace that as well.

Today I'm going to drain the oil and see what it looks like

Any advice on trans shops in Brisbane/ Gold Coast area

I'm planning to do the swap myself, hopefully be able to buy an exchange rebuild.

While at it I plan to put a rebuild kit through the transfer case.

Any thoughts welcome
