I’ll probably hold onto mine for a few more years but I am starting to think about what will replace it. Mine has had the odd problem here and there, and for a good deal of time FCA were purely negligent, but I think I’d still buy another Jeep. I love it and there’s just nothing else like it really. Pretty much everything else on the market is virtually identical to each other and the GC at least has some personality. Having bought it for $46k new and it still being worth $20k odd is pretty good after 7.5 years too.

I certainly understand why people love the diesel, but with all of the emissions controls they (any diesel) seem to be just so highly strung. There are so many things that can and do go wrong with them.

I don’t really understand the efficiency argument because once you factor in the extra maintenance costs, the point is moot.

I’m interested to see what the hybrid is like. I’ve heard good things about the 4xe wrangler, but part of me just wants a hemi [emoji23]

Like you @SouthernComfort I aiming to stretch out my current chariot's timeline and have been contemplating swapping out all the rubber bits around the 150-180K mark, not something I look forward to either as it will be me doing it as I doubt I could afford to pay someone.................................... I do like them a lot, when the knockers start their usual taunt I point out while I have owned a Cruiser, a Landy, a Nissan and others, they clam up when i say this is my third GC, the other 2 clocked up nearly 300K with no dramas they usually shut up, especially when I ask how they perform their maintenance..
Discovery's seem to suffer from the same plug and play servicing problems that our Jeeps have like most vehicles nowadays. Mine has about 200K left before I make a decision.

I think I will be doing what Drover is contemplating..
Wait a couple of years and look for a low km 2020/21 model diesel.
They may be in high demand! If so, it should be good for the resale value of all models too.
My problem will be trying to find another Laredo with air suspension, if so it will have to be a Trailhawk or Overland, both a bit over my price range [emoji45]

I think if EV’s take off and the Government subsidies them (likely), the value of Diesels will fall. Which could be a good thing.

Diesel doesn’t have to come from a fuel station, plenty of people ready to gear up for bio diesel sales so fuel should be around for a long time to come.

The thing that worries me with EV’s is what will happen to competent mechanics? I guess they will eventually disappear....... I know this all could take a while, but things can also move quickly - cars actually haven’t been around all that long if you think about it.

I think mechanics will be around for a few decades yet. Diesel will die in the next 20 years or so at the consumer level but petrol will be around for some time to come

I don’t dispute that at all. I’m just looking at other trades like watchmakers where in Australia there are only a handful left.. technology disrupts everything so much !
