Check out my Ride(s)
Default Dana 30 Axle unis

After wheeling a Dana30 myself for many years on 35's with 4.56, I went through many uni joints. My solution back then was simple.

1. Don't drive on full lock with the locker engaged
2. Tack weld two spots for the uni cup onto the axle.

The only issues involved with having the uni cups welded is if they let go, they do tend to damage the axle ears, but this can also happen under a normal failure.

A second option has come to my attention from another member on the forum (XJDavid) whereby he has modified the uni cup and also the axle ears to take a C-clip.

See photos.

I found that using an ARB locker and 32s/33s that the C-clips would wind themselves out and then the caps would fall out and it was game over. By using a dremel EZ Lock cutoff wheel and small grinding stone both in an electric drill I was able to machine the yoke ears as above to accept a 30mm full circle cir-clip. This has doubled the strength of the axle/uni. It is a bit of work but has been very effective. There is probably other ways of doing the same thing but I chose to take out the minimum amount of material so as the reduce any weakening of the ear. I have not had a uni failure since doing this. I still twist splines mind you.

Try some Loctite bearing mount. Worked great for me on uni joints that were loose in the eyes. Was not on a 4x4 but the result should be the same.
