WKII Continuous tone from left speakers

I have a MY19 WKII Limited, and when I started it a couple of days ago there was a continuous tone from the left speakers. I tried unplugging phone, USB etc, restarting the car, turning the stereo on and off , but the tone stayed. It is the same tone as when an alert sounds, and it dropped the audio for music and phone by half like a normal alert. It just wouldn't go away.
I found a thread on a US site talking about this (jlwanglerforums.com - "constant tone from radio" under electronics, uconnect forum), with many of the posts actually being from WKII owners. They said leaving the car turned off for at least an hour would make the problem go away, and the next morning it was gone. But it was an annoying couple of hours with no phone or audio as I had to leave the volume down to stop the noise. The US thread talks about a "special" software fix (very last post on the thread I found), but the dealer I have been going to will not even ask Jeep Australia if they know of the problem unless the dealer has heard the noise themselves.
Has anyone had this and know of a fix?
