Sweet cheers, well i want to try and add some sort of bolt head protection into mine so i can easily get a socket on there to undo nice and quickly and easily.

Also how much vertical movement can i expect from my front diff. I remember a thread a while ago saying that someone with a front skid had damaged from diff from diff skid contact.

OK, so i have taken some measurements and mocked up some plans i just need to work out the area around the front diff so i can get max clearance for diff, and also for ground clearance.

And anyone other than Ick & KKnut have any ideas let me know... Not that you two arn't helpful with your ideas though... well KKnut you've been less helpful more motivating

I should mention what you can see in red are the crossmembers and front diff, it was a bit hard to tell what was what underbody wise from the side and front views

I must say that the skid plates and the rock rails were the best things I put on the Jeep. Out on the track, I'm not worried hitting below, they're tough as - and doing their job.

I've modified them a bit since and should perhaps update the thread with new photos. You always think of making them better based on the experience, what they do and what happens to them on the track.

The front 'radiator' section is from 6mm chequer plate and slotted heavily for air flow and that's why I used 6mm, never regretted it.

The 'engine sump' section is also 6mm chequer and don't regret that either, as it takes a beating on the rocks and doesn't bend or dent.

The 'transmission pan' section is of 1.6mm sheet and it wasn't enough so I added 6mm chequer stiffeners all around and 2 through the middle sections.

If I was to do it again, I'd do everything in 6mm chequer. My main concern was the added weight, approx. 40kg for all 3 (plus the rock rails), but being a HEMI, didn't notice any difference in economy. Lately, I've been taking them off the next day when I wash the Jeep, it's not too hard to do. You can never wash off the piled dirt on top of them without pulling them off. Main concern was the dirt causing other parts to rust, just a peace of mind thing. Then I whack them back on the day before taking the Jeep out.

BTW, cool thread .

Crikey 6mm thick, i barely have that much ground clearance as is. I can't quite fit the 265/70 17 on mine.

Hmmm how much room did you put between things like oil pan/front diff that kind of thing
