Surely you guys are overthinking this oil capacity thing.
8.4 litres for 11-13 model years because they had an oil cooled turbo.
7.7 litres for MY 14 onward with water cooled turbo and therefore a reduction in oil capacity.

Can see your reasoning ryan.b....but....that doesnt explain the flat 7.7lt stated by the Guru....if you 'google ' it the answers vary from 7.4-10.1lt....not from Jim at redneck backyard garage have a 6 pack with the boyz and pull the engine down....but...oil companies....US based sites (which dont really apply as our engines differ from the over anti pollution restricted US version)....European Workshops (same engines as ours)....South African forums(same engine as ours)....its just quite interesting as to how much variance is out there....Le Cheeses input on the extra sump diesel also sounds well founded when the extra burns introduced via electrickery updates is taken into account.
I have spoken with a Member that has an Engineering background and owned his Early model WK2 from new and he stated 8lt at oil and filter changes sits the dipstick smack on full each time.
Just interests me as to how much variation there is available when 'the question is asked'

Just adding to my above post....this thread isnt about the variation from '13 onwards...or 5spd to 8spd...oil cooled turbo to coolant cooled turbo.....the research I did and thread topic is the variations available on the capacity for '11-'13 model WK2 V6 CRD....early model diesels which werent available in the US....Export engines.

It is pretty weird that various official publications don't seem to show the same thing and the actual amount in the sump is at odds with the data..... and that applies to 11-13 as well as 14 -17 models ..............

Mind you I didn't think about the turbo causing a change but would it change that much as both turbo's have oil flow..... I go by my dip stick far safer that way.. mines due again very soon if I was pedantic I would measure what I drop and compare to what goes back in, thankfully I'm not, pour it in with 1lt and .5 lt regulated oil bottles and thats enough ginning around for me..

The 7 litre containers are really good as you just need to add a tad more than half a litre in to the container and all good...thats what I did for the 4 road side oil changes while doing the lap...

10 or 20lt jobs for me, I have had the thought (for about 20 yrs) of having a 10lt container marked with exactly the right amount, fill to the spot then sit it on the engine and open the tap, empty container equals full sump ...... one of those thought waiting for aroundtuit day .................. off topic but today I got all my stuff together to make a couple of new 4g broadband aerials for 1800mhz, get half way thru and find the alloy tube I have is the wrong size, so shed bench has a genny bits on one end and aerial bits on the other all waiting for parts............... early beer oclock I think, stuff it all...
