If the limit of your electrical is changing batteries in a torch sort of thing I would be finding a mate thats skilled as you do need to do it properly and have some basic stuff like crimpers, soldering iron , multi meter, you will need maxi fuses or circuit breakers, 8 B&S cable and lugs to suit cable size and rating, anderson plugs etc......

Do not connect to the starting battery, use the jumper points under the bonnet, the DC/DC unit should be fused on both sides, power in and power out and the unit must be set up so it only draws when engine running......

Youtube may make it look simple and sometimes they are wrong, by all means have a go as I'm a DiY fella but have someone with you thats clued up so you don't fizz anything or later on it has a melt down and and your vehicle goes up in flames.

Hi Guys,

Just one more question

what are your thoughts to get the second battery underthe passenger seat vs a portable box?

My thinking is;

although I lose some boot space, if I have my DCDC setup to plug into the portable battery box - I can remove it and take it with me if I am camping not near my car.

On the contrary if I had the battery within the car (i.e. under the passenger seat) I guess the negative there is - it is not portable however I get some saved space in the boot.

Anything else I am missing here, keen for anyone opinion/thoughts?

I'm with the portable then you can use it anywhere, swap vehicles, use it for extra lighting power all sorts of things..... anderson plugs fitted only way to go.. you don't need one of those super expensive boxes either just a plain box and you add the fuse and anderson plugs or build your own.

I’m kinda in the same boat.

My limited has the second battery under the passenger seat. Best thing about this set up is it’s fit and forget. Now my Summit has something under the seat so what do I do?

I think it’s another battery there anyways. From what the build sheet says it’s a 80ah battery. Maybe I can upgrade it and use that? Dunno. I’ll have a look today.

John,
If you have a battery in the hole under the pax seat then your new horse has the wonderful "Stop-Start" system fitted so your stuffed for using it as an aux battery, looks like a portable for you........................ bugga... I wonder if you can turn the thing off, be very annoying here in Q for the AC to shut down at a stop and go sign.
