Just an observation on some of the mileage claims being touted, and I'm not having a go at anyone or any brand of tyres here but, long mileage = low grip on road (hard tread compounds), short mileage = lot's grip on road (soft tread compounds). Ask anyone who does track work. It's the compromise between the two and also the tyres carcass construction that makes the difference with what you end up with and lets face it most AT's spend most of the time on the bitumen. So when it's cold and raining and you need to stop in a hurry.......
Off road performance a different issue and again a compromise.

Anyway food for thought next time you're down to the canvas and steel belts at 100,000 + k's

Agree to a point, however I have to say that the Coopers have awesome grip in the wet. I tow almost every day and are always confident with them.
They do gunk up in the clay, but most AT's will.

There was an episode of Pat Callinnans 4WD adventures where he tried to get up a slightly wet clay road with AT3s. He slid backwards with his trailer almost hitting a tree.

I'm guessing most ATs would have had the same problem, particularly towing.

I gave my STMaxx a test out on wet bitumen roads yesterday, accelerating hard through corners the rear end steps out a bit, but the TC tidies it all up with no real fuss. Emergency braking is fine, better than the MickeyT ATZs I had on the cruiser. Must be a softer rubber, grip is great even on slippery wet roads.
