Default Can I just shove a screw through them and be done with it?

Hi Guys,
has anyone tried to refix the plastic rubbing strips on the doors of a 98XJ. One of mine got pulled off so I carefully scraped off all the old adhesive tape and used some outdoor grade Bear double sided adhesive tape. It lasted for about 12-18 months then started lifting at the front and rear. Repco (yes, a mistake, I admit it!) said their tape was much better so I pulled the rubbing strip off again and used Repco tape (after taking an eternity to scrape the old adhesive off the door!). After 1 week the rubbing strip is peeling off already!
The Bear tape seems to work but can I just put a small metal thread screw front and rear to assist the tape?? Anything inside the door I should be careful of when I drill? Is this a really bad idea????
Regards PK

urethane is ok but hard to remove the residue when you remove the mouldings.

I have removed mine all together here is a pic.

Mine too kept peeling off. I used sicaflex and after a while they came off again. On my drivers side is the old sicaflex I couldn't remove without doing damage.
