yes AGM are still lead acid but with a dense glass mat in between plates. Stops alot of metal migration in the cell that can short cct normal batteries, rendering them useless. It allows mounting in any plane, i.e. on their side. They are generally that bit more expensive but have a good deep discharge capability, they will supply a good 12v longer rather than having a voltage drop as current runs low.
