Default Factory parking sensors with different head unit and amp.

Guys, just a quick one,

If I was to upgrade the H/U with one of the OEM replacement units that has canbus, and I bypass the OEM amp, will I still hear the parking beeps through the sound system?

Cheers,

Rob.

Good question.
I'd like to know the answer to this as well.

Here's a theory:

Do the Laredo's with no amp have parking sensors? If so then I would expect I am ok, as the CAN bus would send it's info via the head unit to mute the radio.

But, if they don't I feel I am screwed.

All of this because I took a punt on one of the $300 factory in dash units for the GC, and it's not compatible with the factory amp, so I either find another way or send it back. I have already been in touch with the seller and they have asked me if I have the amp, so I am hoping they have a fix...

After some research I worked out the factory amp gets a CAN bus signal from the dash unit to tell it to up or down the volume, as a result the in dash unit only sends a constant volume signal to the amp.

If the new unit can be programmed to do the same via the supplied CAN adapter, then I may be ok.

Don't mind asking the hard questions
On the surface it would appear simple is not in the Jeep engineers code book
Start by counting the wires of the radio harness and check each function
I'd be inclined to think it's a CAN bus thing

Bypass the amp from the head unit to the speakers ...
If you leave the amp connected then won't everything remain the same?

If it is feasible, I'll run rca's to a separate amp and then run the wires back to the OEM speakers. Only problem is the fronts are bi wired, so I need a crossover to run the OEM speakers, or else I replace them, which I'll probably do in the future anyway.

I'm going to jerry rig up a separate amp over the weekend and see if the sensor warning comes through the speakers connected to the amp.

Wish me luck...

Ok. Results are in...

If you disconnect the OEM amp and head unit, the parking sensors work independently of the system, so continue to operate through their own beeper!

So this means I can run a separate amp and the system will still work, although at this stage I can't seem to get the aftermarket radio to mute on beep, but that's no big deal.

Cheers,

Robert
