Sundown NP - in SEQ
Hi all,
Looking at doing an overnight trip with the boys over easter and have read some good things about this spot in various 4wd escape books.
Has anyone been there and can comment on the experience?
They say the Rats Castle track causes "havoc" to tyres.....true or not?
Cheers

Ive been there over Easter myself and id say you need to get there a day or 2 before to get a half decent camping spot , you need to book in advance and be prepared for neighbours to be camping close by . Beautiful spot i kinda got bored after 4 nights , there are other areas to explore like Bald rock creek but it means a slow drive (long) out to get to them, if i went again it would off peak .
Tyres it would depend on if you have low profile tyres and leave them pumped up or not ect ect.

Thanks for advice.
Our plan was just an overnighter so looks like we might be putting up with a sh7t camp site.

I try to go there 5 or 6 times a year for the last few years, sometimes with friends, family or just a solo trip. I've explored quite a bit there and never get bored of the place. Easter is a busy time I normally stay away from the peak times, but are you tent camping or camper trailer?
You'll have no problem with tyres up there unless you drive like a muppet and / or have extremely low profile tyres. As long as you do the usual air down and take care you'll be ok. I've seen more rollovers in the area then slashed tyres.
Worst thing about sundown? The @&$#wits that go there just to burn stuff and tear the place up. It's definitly getting worse. Loud music, donuts and pulling out and burning the old homesteads fence posts and cattle yard posts last time I was there. Head up out of peak though and have the place to yourself and it's one of the best places around here!

Thanks Oz, we are just swaging it for the night. I am running 18"s so not as low profile as the 20s.
Shame about the warlords tearing the place up.
