Exclamation Return of the Red 99 Sport!

.. er ................ but
My 01 PT Cruiser had a heart attack yesterday ... did a timing belt I think
and could be serious Chrysler interference engine might of bent a valve or two $$$ the timing belt kit and a new water pump are about $ 270 from rockauto probably $600 ish landed here and a real Fun Job to Do!
So I am going to park her up for a while
I bought the red 99 Sport back .. cheaper to put it back on the road than the PT at the moment and more practical
Here's the Story...............
4and a 1/2 Years ago the Father in Law bought the Red 99 for $1500 had it for about 18 months fixed the head liner and new air con compressor and rego .... I did all the service work new rad thermostat as well He then sold it to O'L Mate The CarKiller who paid $3500 for it He Flogged IT! Lucky He Had Sensor Issues which made it Play Up ... Once again I fixed ... He got the Shits and gave it to Me! Once again I fixed it cleaned it and then the Father in Law wanted it back I sold it to him for $1500 which I used to get the head done on my 96 Limited ....... now it has been sitting for 18 months in his yard Once again I did the rear brakes just need to bleed them it is sitting on 2 new tyres never been out the yard and has a vac leak I think ? So I will park the PT for later and I bought it back for $2000 in this incarnation it has another new tyre now at 3 new tyres and a new tail light another tyre a battery and a bit of TLC and back on the road for about $500 ..... I will do the brakes and bring it home next week to start tinkering with it even though it runs good temps I have enough Liquid Intelligence left to flush the gutz out of it why not I say I have to change the IGA Coolant out for Nulon serious coolant like my 96 .......................... Stay Tuned

the red one looks to be in excellent condition. Even under the bonnet looks shiny.

Well, at least you know some of the history.
Should be fun reading about the saga of getting and keeping this one sorted.
Looks in pretty good condition. How many K's has she got on her?

I couldn't afford to keep to XJ's on the road.. rego and insurance on one costs me $1500 a year.

Cheers,

Is the PT a CRD?
If so, you have your work cut out.
Best result will be a few broken rockers, belt & water pump. Worst, broken valves, piston ~ full engine out rebuild.

No the PT is petrol but still going to be pricey to fix I estimate around $ 600 in parts just to do a compression test
Yeah I know alex but I do get a rego discount being a disability pensioner and living out here you need two cars because of the distances and lucky we don't drive much so fuel is only about $20 or $30 a fortnight and minimal insurance ...
the red 99 has about 245 thou on the clock it does not have the bulbar anymore it was mounted to two tabs welded to the front bumper That's Strong? The CarKiller wrecked the strips on the sides and the running boards which I removed and cleaned up ............................
BUT CHECK THIS OUT!.................. Is There a Holy Grail!
I am Pretty Sure I will get the Red 99 But I was looking on carsales today and in Brisbane there is a Green 97 for $1200 unreg with 28.527 k on the clock!?! surly a typo? I texted the owner to enquire ? Deceased Estate still waiting for a reply I would jump a plane to Bris $400 stay at my Mums Free get a permit and get it home for $2000 last reg January This cant Be True ... its on carsales look it up
Wouldn't that be a find (barn find) a new 97! has to be a Typo ........ see what the reply to my text says

That low k's XJ is a typo, so cancel your flight..
If you scroll the photos, the odometer says 232,000k's and the Jeep looks like it did everyone of those..
The holy grail is still out there somewhere...

Cheers,
