Default Is your XJ odometer completely straight???

Hi,

I've been shopping for an XJ as per other thread "Joining XJ brotherhood", and in two Cherokees I have driven, I noticed the speedo numbers were not exactly straight. I asked the dealers, suggesting it may have been tampered with, but they said the numbers are more "crooked" than that if they have been wound back.

These number were about 1mm higher or lower than adjacent number.

Are your XJ speedos like this too? Is this just a design tolerance issue with Jeep speedos, rather than a tamper indication?

I would be surprised if these were both tampered with, as the dealers were both quite reputable. One was the offical Jeep dealer on the Gold Coast.

Your advice is appreciated.

Also, please look at my questions in the last post in the other "brotherhood" thread. You guys are the best!

Thanks,
4WDMan

I too have noticed this. in comparison to my previous car (nissan) the speedo number appear to be wonky. I don't think it is anything to worry about. My XJ was second hand, but had all the service manuals since new. it was serviced at the jeep dealer in Melb. and the Km's and dates in between services seemed reasonable.

it all depends on the number of km's.
eg. if the odometer reads 129,890 then the numbers will obvisously be less straight than a reading of 135, 500.

It could be worse with the older cherokees ??

I don't know really just a couple of suggestions.
