An update on this problem of mine.

Took the car back to the mechanics for the third time, and told him I would leave it there until it was properly fixed and road tested for at least 15 minutes.

This time the brake pads were changed to Genuine Jeep Pads, and from my own driving, I don't hear a single squeak so far. Looks good, touch wood.

Fortunately, I didn't have to pay anything, as the Car Dealer had promised this problem was already fixed when I bought the car off them.

Do you guys know how much Genuine Jeep Brake Pads would be worth for the front wheels?? (I am wondering what they had to spend).

Thanks for all your help,
4WDMan

I changed my pads on the weekend from genuine Jeep ones to Ferodo 4WD pads, they cost $85 from Auto One. When I first put them in they felt a little weak but I bedded them in as per the instructions in the box. When finished I had a noticable smell but now they perform better than the originals I had (worn out of course) and with no smell at all. The bit of note was how important it was to bed them in properly as it said if you over heat them from the start they will perform badly and overheat easily.

Maybe the pads you had weren't bedded in properly by the dealer/previous owner.

In case anyone is interested the instructions said to brake gently from 60 down to 15 about 8 times with a 300-400m gap between application preferably without coming to a stop at anytime.

Cheers
Steve

they go over the ends of the caliper mount and under the caliper... apparently to stop it from ratteling..

in the 'haynes' repair manual they have pictures on page 9-4
