Default ZG Diff Windup

I know this may have been addressed before but with so many threads I have been anable to find something.
I have a 98 ZG Limited and when I try to do U turns or tight parking it kicks and bucks like an old mule.
I doesn't do it when it is cold only when the heat builds up from driving or during the day sitting.

To me it feels like the diffs are winding up and fighting each other. It is mainly the rear diff that is skipping and chirping the inside wheel. To add a bit more info, once you have parked the car and applied the handbrake the car rocks as though it is unwinding.

I have had many possible causes quoted and changed the Transfer oil.

What do you think it can be, is it easy to fix and how much?

Cheers Scott

It sounds like the centre (transfer case) viscous coupling locking up.This is a sealed unit & has to be repaced as an assemble.Make sure all tyres are exactly the same diameter & properly inflated as this will do it.If so ,pull front driveshaft out & see if problem goes away, that will confirm VC fault.

Same thing happend with mine turned out to be the viscous coupler in the 249 tcase. Rather than change the coupler i put a new 242 Tcase in.

But check oil levels in diffs and transfer case first.

Thanks for the advice, I have done the obvious cheap alternatives and check/ changed oils, tyres etc. When I bought the truck it had a mixed match set of tyres so I changed them ASAP. If I drop the front driveshaft to check the Centre VC will this damage the transfer case in any way as the front output will be driving with no load. ie the VC might think that the front wheels are spinning?

No, main drive is to rear with front locking-up when rear wheel slip is detected, also can load-up VC if no shaft is connected.
