Default WJ UHF Fitting

I have a UHF radio which I want to fit in the WJ, it's a bog standard single din size so where have you fellas stuck yours ???? Would love a remote style unit but beggers can't be choosy.
Don't want to take a jig saw to the dash but then again......

A singe DIN unit will be difficult to install under or in the dash, all I can suggest or think of is on top of the dash above the stereo.

A remote unit is much easier to install but it is around $300 which is a few slabs of beer. Depending on how much you drink you could have a "Dry July" and pay for a new CB that way

Yeah single DIN is probably too big even for the accessory pocket that was available for where the ashtray is. I went remote unit too with all the controls in the mic. Your only option but looks redneck is probably side mounted on either side of the trans tunnel. In my Patrol I had one mounted with super strong Velcro to the plastic trim under the steering wheel above left knee and it never moved so that could be an option if you didn't put your brake controller there. Bit annoying sometimes depending on your leg position but workable.

Along Bodgies thoughts GME do that small non remote traditional unit that would fit in the ashtray hole if you gutted it. Or on the coin tray below the ashtray but you are getting a bit rough looking again. Not sure if still available it was the TX3100.

Maybe sell the dinosaur DIN sized one then that's one less carton you have to go without.

Otherwise good luck.

Have to agree with you fellas, but what the heck it's now mounted on the dash, sitting very nicely and looking pretty damn good, which surprises me. It's stuck with double sided tape, yeah I know, but this stuff sticks like the ole proverbial and doesn't want to move and if it does I'll just wack a screw in, hell the vehicles getting to 10 yrs old !!!!!
Looked at under dash, NO, looked at hanging off the centre console NO, thought about an under the seat job, but really radio is not that important, it's like the TV full of crap, just want to talk to a mate following me, after years as a truckie I know the crap thats on 40.
Suppose I have to take a piccy to show you how cool my CRD now looks.........????
I did plumb the aerial cable thru the door cables run as the firewall was just too much of a pain......

PS: Beer issue is budgeted each month and shall not be interfered with, EVER.....same goes for Bourbon issues......

Good work, make sure you warn us before posting a picture so I make sure I don't eat before logging on.

I've used double sided tape to hold my brake controller on and it has never moved. As long as it's good quality stuff it's bloody strong. The Velcro I used for the Patrol UHF was a plastic one from 3M as is the double sided tape I use.

LOL Thats exactly what I did on my WG. Neatly packed the cables into split loom and down the lhs.
Looked OK and worked great until I got my split unit. Then I fitted the control unit in the front tray of the ctr console and the main box below the steering column with remote speaker on firewall above lh foot.
Somehow the original was so much simpler.

I sprung for the small one (tx3100 I think) around the $200 mark online and cut a small slot in the front on the ashtray (non-smoker). Antenna was on the roof with the spots but now resides on the passenger guard.
