To no avail This has been going on for about 2 weeks, however the last 2 days when you go out to t the key, the battery is dead! Any idea on the gremlin we are chasing?

Ahhh now this feels better, a thread about a KJ in the KJ part of the forum, less BS now...
*A common issue on both the 2.5lt, early 2.8lt and the later 2.8lt diesel is the failure of the crankshaft position sensor, I'm now keeping them in stock as its become that common. The symptoms are as you describe, once it gets to a certain temp it cuts out and wont start again until cooler, about that 10 minutes or so.
*There are generally round two fault codes from memory, one is in ref to "camshaft" position sensor circuit, the other I cant remember, the early ones, again from memory cross ref the crankshaft sensor and camshaft sensor, when there is a mismatch it throws the camshaft sensor as the fault even though its the crankshaft sensor at fault.
*Other less common issues are a short in the camshaft sensor circuit, just after where the harness plugs into the cam sensor, the plastic engine cover wears through the harness, but the symptoms are more erratic as in sometimes cut out, sometimes not start, can go for days without issue, will generally fault code with a ref to cam sensor circuit, but wont be listed as "open".
*Fuel filter head leaking, but again symptoms are moving away from what you have said is occurring and again can be far more erratic.
*The other no start issue may point to a alternator clutch pulley failure, have a look at alternator pulley, generally if failed, failing it will have a fair amount of red rusty powder around it, so the clutch doesnt allow the alternator to spin at full rpm if at all and there for doesnt charge the battery.
*less common is a alternator failure.
*modern batteries tend to only last about 3 years at best, see how old it is.
Its a start...
