Trying to figure out a way to temporarily attach a sand flag to my KL - either to one of the front towhooks or to a roof rail. Just wondering how others have done it?
Have never used one to be honest. Last time I ran in sand in NSW just south of Sydney there was no rules about them. Mind you that was around 1980.
In QLD there are still no rules so again no need!
Personally though if I had to do it and I think the rules are they should be on the front(?) I would make up a plate to sit on top of the front tow hook with bits sticking down around the inside edge of the tow hook so the plate cant slide, a hole in the centre with a bolt through it to a simple flat plate on the bottom and a wing nut or normal nut with a short bar welded on it.
Should take a few hours tops to make and a few seconds to attach.

So thought I'd share what I came up with: a $20 bike flag and $20 worth of 15mm pvc pipe and fittings from bunnings. Overall height is about 3.1m, weighs next to nothing, base can be duct taped to the roof rails, and the flag screws off.
Definitely not fit for a Simpson crossing, but quick and cheap solution, and I think it'll stand up to the odd day on the beach. Will test it out this week in SA and update on how it goes...
