Default smittybilt SRC Side Armor rails.

Hi all
thinking of getting some of these rails http://www.doubleblackoffroad.com/je...ide-Armor---JK anyone have them fitted if so what do you think of them? I've been trying to find a pic of them from the side on a JKU to see how low they hang but not had any luck.
Cheers for any info

they would be super sturdy being mounted to the main body mounts like that. a little low but just give bill from dbor a bell and tell him your situation/requirements and he'll be sure to have several types that may suit, personally i like these as it gives you (or the missus) something to stand on as mine (rugged ridge) mount the same way but have very little space to stand on

(he's got some evil looking sliders with a foot rest that retracts when the door is opened in 2wd mode but wont retract when in 4L so as not to get hung up on stuff when wheeling...amazing but $$$)

some pics that may help

cheers
sLaDeY

They are certainly strong enough. They do hang a little lower than some but I was out with a friend who has these on his JKU at the weekend and he had no issues with them hitting anything. They certainly aren't any lower than the chassis rails. The guys doing rock crawlering might prefer something less bulky but for general 4WD'ing they seem to do the job well.

Beware though, they don't seem to fit all model years of JK. I have an MY10 and bought some for mine but couldn't get them to fit (even after drilling out the mounting holes a little). It turns out that Jeep changed something (not sure what) on the front body mounts on the MY10's and Smittybilt now need to redesign the mount on the sliders to fit. They should be OK for older JK's but not sure if the re-design has been done yet to help the fitting on the newer model. My mates JKU is an MY08 and his fit OK though.

Also, try Jeep Konection as well. I dealt with Henry and he was great to deal with, even when mine didn't fit. From memory they're a good bit cheaper than the price advertised on the link you attached, but still based in Melbourne.

I was keen to these myself because they look awesome but a bit of research on US forums suggest they have a fair bit of flex and they don't mount properly on some cars without a bit of dremel work to the slider (the bolt holes are out of alignment).

I to have read about them being a bit hit and miss on fitting!
Paul-JK you say (I have an MY10 and bought some for mine but couldn't get them to fit (even after drilling out the mounting holes a little)
sounds like the one's you got were a big miss!.I have a MY11 some maybe I may have the same problems with them fitting!!
I like them as I need a side step for the kids but was worried they may hang to low but from what you say they sound like they would be ok for the 4WD'ing I do.
Looks like I Will have to do a bit more research on them?
sLaDeY thanks for the pic's a great help, love the side rails with the foot rest that retracts but way to rich for me.
cheers for all the info Sheffman

I actually tried 2 sets. The first set I drilled out to try and make them fit. I opened the holes a lot and eventually got them to fit over the bolts but by that point the whole fixing bracket was so far out of alignment with the body mount that it would locate into place and even if it did it would have been too tight to get a socket in to tighten the nut back up. Jeep Konection then sent me a second sent to see if they were any different but they looked exactly the same when I tried them up against the mounts. They then spoke to Smittybilt who said that they were aware of the issue and would rework the mounts to suit the later models. This was about a year ago so they may well have sorted it by now.

Just be clear with whoever you buy them from and make sure they understand exactly what model year of JK you have so that if it turns out that they don't fit then you can hopefully get your money back. If you go through Jeep Konection then speak to Henry. He'll remember the hassle he had with mine and the frequent conversations with Smittyblit so he'd be able to advise what will work and what won't.

I have the XRC version. They look great and seem to do the job, but the install was a PITA. Certainly had to make some adjustment to the holes so that bolts would line up, etc.
