Here's a quick graphic of what I'm thinking of for the breather hose, 2 taps and a T section - screw together and clamp into breather hose - what do you reckon?

when you guys fill your diesel's up do you all ways stick the nozzle all the way in ?
i have a diesel aswell, some servo pumps i have no trouble with. some are a pain in the butt you pull the trigger 2mm and it constant clicks off.
the trick what i do is stick the nozzle only about 25mm from the filler rim.so i can see the fuel going in the tank. then the fuel doesn't back up .....
its not 100% fix but i find it so much better....so next time you guys fill up give it a go nothing to loose...

With a TJ, turn the pump around so the bottom of the handle faces 11 oclock.
I have a petrol JK now, but that was the pretty easy fix for the TJ. Just rotate the pump around till it works for you and doesn't keep clicking off.

halfa, steve, who came up with this solution checked in with an update from time to time. he said himself it's not perfect and once in a while he still got a slow fill, but not often. it was usually caused by the slope of the ground. so if possible fill where the ground slopes with the high side where the filler tube is. if there is a slope the other way, you are almost trying to force fuel uphill to get it in the tank. having done the fix, you can see for yourself it's just bad design. the filler should be on the other side of the vehicle , directly above the tank with a 50mm filler tube dropping the fuel straight in. but it's the best we can do. cheers.

Thanks David, I did read that in my marathon read of all the posts, mind you finding a servo with an anything but completely flat driveway seems like a tall ask, last one I can remember was in Cooma.

Or maybe on the NSW South coast - anyway 100% better than it was will do me OK - I'd bought my diesel rubber hose + clamp and was driving home to put it all together and I passed the Garage in our little town, it had been sold a couple of weeks ago and wont be re-opening as a garage again, but I spied the guy who use have it in there with a couple of his mates, should have clearing stuff out for new owner - anyway I drive in on the off chance that he's still got hoist working - it was, Stevil done in extra fast time without having roll around in the dirt at my place, the ex-owner wouldn't take more than 20 bucks - nice reminder of how the country used to be.
