Also diesel runs a very high compression ratio, pouring diesel in can cause engine damage.

What is the "belt is fine" idea, My belt looked fine at 58,000km,. but it had no teeth on it. It done everything you just said his was doing.
Well there you go. Didn't know which is why I asked it as question. I'm a petrol guy.

Can that engine be turned a rotation by hand off anything or are there too many covers? To check for even compression on all cylinders?

And just for further info is it a interference engine or not?

"However you will notice diesel pouring out underneath if this is the problem when you try to start/turn over the engine.

MDK, the rockers have a fail safe in them to break (bend or snap) to prevent valve and piston damage if the belt breaks or it suffers a heavy compression lock.
You can turn the engine over via the crank bolt with out a problem. Checking compression in each bore how ever is not so easy, the injectors take a few hours to remove.

Any news on your this John?

I just had the new Fuel pipe and fittings fitted, as well as a new fuel filter, to mine this morning - hopefully it will not fail again!

His mechanic has had a quick look at it and reckons its either melted a hole in a piston or blown the head/head gasket between 3 and 4. He also noticed the exhaust has broken at the dump pipe leaving a half inch gap could this have caused over boost and the ecu to over fuel causing a melted piston like the 3 Litre patrols do??
