sorry for my ignorance but I thought snorkels increased airflow - especially on the jeep with the air intake jammed against the bonnet like it is - surely more air is getting in through the snorkel?

The longer the intake the more riestricted it is Do not believe the ad hype about increased power etc. the only benifit a snorkels gives you is if you want to turn your cat into a submarine. await the flaming

The other thing people have found is the radiator clogs up with mud quite easily and can cause overheating issues. Have you been driving in mud much?

Agreed.. if you had a precleaner or other fitting restricting airflow.

And yes, a longer path for the air means greater resitance...

But at speed, a ram head snorkel will create positive pressure on the air intake side, which increases efficiency. Ordinarily this would create a leaner mixture, however the airflow monitor should adjust and keep the fuel/air mixture at the correct level.

It shouldn't affect effect engine performance adversly, if at all. And even if it would, not to the extent that it would cause overheating.

When i had my service done last week I was advised that the computer was indicating a low current or low voltage to the cooling fan. The recomendation (off the record) was to wash the fan with the pressure washer to flush the mud and hopefully it will come good. The fan costs $90 (dealer invoice price) and is a non-sealed unit that is prone to clogging with mud.

Most people drive around in the city or bush at low speeds so having a snorkel is a waste of time. The little benefit you get from cold air is not worth the cost of cutting a hole in your car
