Code readers/scan tools
I want a code reader to be able to check codes and reset engine light, is there any point in spending lots of $'s or just something simple off eBay?
super cheap auto have a Bosch unit which is over $240, while there are units on eBay for 1/10th of this price.

Supercheap is not cheap.
You need to find out what system you need.
Diesel jeeps often need DBR3 . Its a unique system but it has a lot more functionality. Its very expensive ~ several k. OBD will give some basic stuff but for a diesel, people are disappointed.

Also if you want the capability to read airbag, ABS and other integrated vehicle modules your will need more than a basic obd2 reader.

BlueDriver app will do that and more. Can even reset the N23 no low range issue.
