I agree with Greenjk, I've had cheap tools that strip bolts, screws etc. I used to buy throw away tools as I'm a infrequent user. But have recently slowing upgrading over time. If find Stanley stuff a good compromise between affordable and the more expensive stuff like sidchorme snap on.

So now have a set of stanley 160 piece set. They've been sitting in my shed for 3 months before I've had to wield them in anger, but they made repairing a big set of gates to my dads house a lot easier.

The cheap stuff will still do the job, but the better stuff just does it easier.

Jeepers this escalated quickly!

hahahaha though it sounds like the concensus is, buy a tool box / bag not cantered,
when i break tools replace them! i like that idea i can do that!!!

as for sockets and wrenches yeah i'll have to be getting good quality regardless by the sounds of it. so i'll just get what ever is in the toolbox first and that'll have to replace it when i break it, now mind you i rarely use tools often anyway and the most stress they would have seen in the last year is building flatpacks for home.

when i'm having car toruble i go to a mates place and we fix stuff there with his tools hahahahaaha - but now i'll at least be able to say i can do it at my place and see how a set of tools goes!!

have found the tool kits i'm going with maily for the box for the price the tools can't be any good but will report back anyway..

it's a 199 peice 6 drawers set. from AutoBarn $99 sale at the moment some unknown brand of course, Ultimate Garage??

as i said for the price i'm thinking i'm paying for the toold BOX more than the tools as i said though i currently have a wide varried set of semi decent tools so as those break in this cheapo set i will replace with the semi decent'ish one i have but i'll be able to have a toolbox for the first time instead of toosl strewn all over the place...

thanks for everything you have all suggested i'll be keepign an eye out for all the different wrenches / sockets though by the sounds of it hahahah
is a seperate breaker bar worth while buying also??

Mate I hate to say it but you are wasting $$$ buying that sort of kit IMHO.
A cheap chest is a pain. (anything below a few hundred for the chest alone is cheap - ie waste). Spend the coin on the good tools FIRST then worry about the box/chest.

Don't waste your coin on cheap crap, it won't last you'll just find it a pain in the back side when the ill fitting sockets don't fit as snugly as they should (this is probably why they put sizes like 4.5mm sockets in them!) and the the cheap ratchet breaks. You don't have to go snap on, but you can get good quality tools that won't break the bank. My Super Works Gold kits have served me very well and cost less than $80 for each kit when they were on special, Stanley has also not failed me.

IMHO, for what you have described, go for the Stanley kit and build on that. You can throw that in the back of the car for roadside repairs and adhoc mods and o to your mates place for the bigger mods.

I would prefer quality tools in separate boxes over cheap tools in a cheap box.

Finally dropped a few hundred on a tool chest to put all my tools in. What a difference. Open a draw and everything is easily seen and accessible. Wish I did it a long time ago.
