Parso just modded his muffler (They are the same on V8's and CRD's) so there's an option.

Sounds much better, deeper tone and slightly louder. It actually sounds like a v8 now! That said it could probably be louder tbh. Plans are to open it up again later on and completely gut it, replace the pipe with 3" perforated pipe and repack the muffler to make it a straight through. For an experiment however i'm pretty pleased with how it turned out, especially for free.

Stock the muffler seems relatively restrictive. For reference the circular and rectangular holes are ones i've cut. Also the outlet for the muffler chokes down to 2.5" ( inside the muffler )whilst the rest of the pipework is 2.75" Red lines indicate flow of stock muffler.

ive been looking at doing something to mine, not sure if i should just remove the muffler and put in a bit of pipe or go the 3" system ?
Oh and im Pre DPF so i dont have to worry about that bloody thing thank god.
just wanting a bit less lag and easier running really.
i do have a GDE Tune, resonator delete and K&N filter so i though id benefit from a bit of exhaust work aswell.

My biggest concern is noise as i do like it being fairly quite, but going by alot of other modern diesel's i hear with exhausts you only really hear it if you have the power on, so im cool with that .

If you reckon i should go with an exhaust, what would you recommend ?

Cheers
I haven't done anything to mine yet as i am still waiting to add the GDE and DPF delete before I do it so that I can get it all done at once (Muffler and DPF delete).

As per my previous post, I reckon your best bet is to rip that horribly restrictive muffler off and replace it with a straight pipe. The noise difference on JRJ33P's Commander was negligible with the muffler removed, and as you mentioned, the noise was just a bit more noticeable when you put the foot down.

The difference between the standard 2.75" SS system and a 3" SS system would not be much - you might notice it on a race car, but on a diesel 4WD it would be 2 parts of stuff all.

Just my 2c.

I have a commander so DPF, i have a snorkel, resonator delete (custom made),Quantum tune, High flow 3" exhaust from tipan. I couldn't find anybody to touch the cats and i couldn't see the point in leaving them stock so i deleted them and it went like cut cat i couldn't believe how quick it took off for a 2.5 vehicle.

As for noise it was about 10% louder, couldn't even notice it with the windows up. my only problem was my temp where to low and it couldn't do a burn and we couldn't come up with a solution that wasn't going to cost me more money.

I had to go back to standard cats and while i was there i started the car to see how it sounds running out of the high flow DPF and it wasn't that bad, i like a bit of noise but i don't want it sounded like the young bloke's ranger down the road and i don't won't it to drone going down the highway getting to old for that.

Hi Clarky and all

Saw your post re needing new exhaust. I needed to do a lot of work to my tem ride which is 79 series cruiser to in increase power. One item was the exhaust system, i chose roo systems at brisbane and am very happy with the result. Steve was very helpful and honest. I think they do systems for jeep as well. Roo systems have agents thruout aus so you have aftersales backu if required

Happy trails

Well Forum folk

The bloody great mufflers gone, and replaced with a straight bit of pipe now.

Very happy so far with the result, as for noise its as some of guys said really no difference if any(have been on the hwy yet) and the Turbo wakes up much quicker.the whole car just seems to just roll around now with no stress bugger all throttle needed.

be interesting to see if the fuel use drops.

Cheers

The underside was one of the reasons i brought it, the whole car is in great nick. i swear the previous owner must not have used it (i guessing it was only on road use). ive had it a couple of years now and live in a sea side town. im very fastidious it gets washed on a regular basis and the underside is normally sprayed down during washing, also gets washed underneath straight after any sand work.

No snow any stage over my way.
