Default JGC 98 model transfer case

hi all, a friend just bought a jeep grand Cherokee 98 model , I have been going through it so he can register it , IT HAS GRIND NOISE , after it didn't have a front drive shaft in it , got one placed it in , mmmm still grinding but better sound , looked at the transfer case ....... NO FLUID AT ALL , filled it up , came out in the morning with a big wet patch under the transfer , well rather than mucking around I thought "this fellow has a xj right ?" use its transfer , well turns out that it has a select trac in it , question is can this transfer be used when the 98 had a quad trac ? or do I have to play with the dana 30 in it as well ?
nothing pisses me more than a fix for some is thinking pulling out the front shaft .
can I place in this select trac in with out mucking around with the front diff ?
any help or advice is welcome . cause ........im the poor bastard doing it.

Well Bleet. As you know, if a transfer case has had no oil in it, It is rooooted. Is it a 242? AFAIK, it will be. Tell him to get another one and all will be fine.

nop , the one in it is a 24 ??? (cant read it due to its marked up)
but on the shifter it is quadra trac ?? (if I remember )
but the spare that I would like to throw in is a select trac one (2wd,4 low 4 high)
out of a 97 xj , and the wondering that im doing is will the dana 30 handle the select trac ?? NOW he is pulling it out of the xj , but im the one who will have to place into the zg , I don't want to throw the xj diff in , as it is a uni shaft not a cv one , and mucking around doing all the work
I don't mind doing the transfer , but if I have to start changing diff/s it is something I don't really want to do , but the jeep is here and the thing is l@@king at me saying " FIX ME" but I am really unsure about the locker in this zg , do they run one ?
if they do could cause a issue for the diff and turning around corners could be a issue .

well as it turns out , his wrecked one is a extended type so the tail shaft is totally different , meaning he has to buy another .
so he can not use the one out of the wreck as far as I know , so means more work for me................. oh joy oh joy happy joy joy LOL ,
unless the extension housing can be swapped over , but im not going to muck around with it , im tired , worn out , as far as I know he is going to buy the transfer case in Bendigo and bring it here .(the mobile phone he was using died)
really this black thing needs work big time and the dick that thinks by just pulling out the front shaft fixes this is a total WONKING DONK BLONK. no wonder he sold it.
my friend just wanted so his wife could use , man oh man , work set out for me.

It will work.

Depending on the lengths of the input gear and number of splines you might need to swap the input gear from the dead TC.

Another culprit could be the drive shaft length and yoke compatibility. But all this sure has been done before.
