Default New stereo in :)

I had heaps to do on the Jeep but the weather was rubbish and I wasn't in the mood so I stuck my new stereo in today.

I bought a CD/MP3/SD/MMC/USB player from Aldi for $149 last week when they had them on sale. I then got a face plate that fills the gap and converts it to a single din hole from JB-HiFi, it cost $22. So for $172 I had a new stereo.

When I pulled the dash apart I didn't like the way the rear of the stereo wouldn't have any support. I found that a piece of aluminium angle across the back was the perfect height to support the rear of the headunit rather than just the two bolts that are on the face of the adapter.

Anyway heres a couple of pics. In total it took about 2 1/2 hrs.

The dash pulled apart and the aluminium angle siliconed at the back for the rear support

The blanking plate and stereo in, the flap that is lifted up is for the SD/MMC cards and USB Key

The sound is great, I was originally going to replace the speakers but wont bother now.

Cheers
Steve

Man that is cheap. Amazing what they fit in to those units now a days. Makes me what to give up my CD stacker as a mpg player plugged in the front cant ever skip! Be interested to know what the reception is like in the country areas as that can vary a lot between units.

Yep, the main reason I got it is for the USB and SD playing. The maximum size is 1GB for each but that is still 2GB of WMA or MP3's (forgot to say it also plays WMA's) How many CD's is 2GB of mp3s, about 12 - 15 isn't it

Cheers
Steve

Cool. How did you go wiring it - did you hack the factory loom? I couldn't find an adapter for the later model XJs when I replaced mine. I ended up making up a loom by hacking the old stereo's plugs.
