Default How do you know what gear you are in?

There's heaps of people on forums talking about gears, gear changing and whether they can hit 9th gear etc.

How do you know what gear you are in?

I recently was on a 500 km road trip and was cruising between 110-135 km/hr and trying to work out whether I was in 7th, 8th or 9th.

I can feel 1st to 4th gears, but after that the changes are pretty much imperceptible.

Are people counting, guessing or what?

If you push the gear lever to the left to manually select your gear range, the "D" in the instrument cluster will change to show the number of whatever gear the vehicle is in at the time you move the gear lever to the left. If that makes sense...

As for 9th, good luck.... I've done 34,000km and I'd almost bet my life it's never engaged 9th - not even cruising at high speeds in the NT...

Yep flick the shift lever to the left and glance down. Flick back and keep driving. It's a shift limiter so the number won't change even if it downshifts until u flick it back to d.
As for 9th u can get it going over 125kmh or more and foot lightly on the pedal and flick the lever across to see. I also find my trailhawk sort of forces a shift when I flick left to right to the next gear. That will also help get to 9th

Or stick it in low range, drips into 9th at about 50 to 55kmh runs right up 80kmh
