Interesting!! Will it be fan cooled?? If it rains, it will be water cooled. May need a little scoop.. I would anticipate that when driving, the air will be drawn from outside into the engine bay which is ideal.

Well I've just run it for about 20 min to see what happens in neutral and park
And the temp sat at 70C. I held it in drive and stalled it to 100C and then back to neutral to see how quick the temp dropped back to 75C. You can see the needle move so it responds reasonable quick.
I have a Nissan patrol scoop to go over the cooler but I'll run it bare just to get some idea of the difference. I plan to run a 8" fan aswel but I'll take little steps so as to get info on each stage. Rain will fall through on to the steering shaft and there would be just as much water coming throught main radiator when it's heavy rain.

The scoop in development.
I'll have to source a 8" fan as the engine bay temp of 60+C is heating up the cooler.
I still have to fit the deflector/heat shield on the under side front edge.

I think you find, as I said before, is when your driving, the air is sucked in as there is negetive air pressure under the hood. When you stop, the opposite occurs. I have tested this using bits of string attached around the scoop.

Yes, when i had the hole cut I did the string test and at quite low forward speed there is a flow in to the engine bay, when I stop there is the reverse , the air is moved out by the air con thermo and to a lesser degree the engine fan. I will not need much of a fan to counter the thermo when stationary.
If I can eliminate the radiator heat exchanger and add some engine bay venting then I'll be happy.

I have the 7" fan fitted now and around town traffic in the middle of the day the temp peeks at 90C, If I sit and idle with the transmission in neutral/park the fan can drop the temp to 75C-80C.
The fan is not required on the motorway as the temp sit at the bottom of the scale , around 50C-60C.
Added bonus is I leave the fan running when I stop for a few minutes to pick stuff up and the under bonnet temp is cooled quite a bit.
The temp sensor is on the out let on the transmission so thats the hottest temp.
