Default Engine Codes

Gday to all i have a 1996 Grand Ltd wilst driveng last sunday it started to develop a miss under acceleration and what i could here to be best described as backfiring this missing gradually became worse until anything over 2000rpm it would not rev it never stalled or cut out if i turned the motor off and re started it would run ok for about 5minutes then start again.

I tried to retreive the engine codes to see if there is a code i followed the procedure as per Go Jeep site but this does not appear to work on my car

Idont know if this was a pre exiting prob as i have not long bought this car as a non goer it had a transfer case prob i changed t/case

Any info on how to retrieve codes and are they the same as cherokees thanks

Check dist is clean & moisture free, also check leads at both ends.
Otherwise it could be crank angle sensor.
Codes are retrieved as per go-jeeps instructions.

I also found on the zj that it would suffer from fuel starvation whenever fuel level below 1/4 & moderate cornering.
