Please help transfer case click. Stealership giving me bs???
I have owned my 2011 CRD for only 2 months after owning a 2007 CRD, and trying to get familiar with the VM engine , merc autobox and MP3023 trans case. Since owning i have had an irritating click from the trans case shift motor which is very easy to hear when windows are down with the Jeep at walking speed eg.in a car park.
Click is not rotational but sound like a solenoid activating/deactivating.
Jeep has 1 year warranty and is in the stealers at the moment for the clicking fault and engine shudder. They called yesterday to say the click is "normal" and it is the shift motor locking/unlocking the clutch pack due to difference in torque.
So my question is do your CRD's click from trans case at walking speed and can it be heard so frequent that it irritated the sh** out of you.
Cheers in advance
The only clicking I ever got from mine was when it would lose traction and it was a very distinct and obvious sound. Worried me at first until I read it was the traction control clicking in and out. I couldn't tell you if it came from the transfer case or not though.
The clicking on mine only ever occured offroad when a wheel lost traction but it did sound like a solenoid as you say but if it is doing it at low speed in a car park I would think that is definitely not normal.
From page 227 of the user manual.
NOTE:
• The “ESC Activation/Malfunction Indica-
tor Light” and the “ESC OFF Indicator
Light” come on momentarily each time
the ignition switch is turned ON.
• Each time the ignition is turned ON, the
ESC system will be ON even if it was
turned off previously.
• The ESC system will make buzzing or
clicking sounds when it is active. This is
normal; the sounds will stop when ESC
becomes inactive following the maneuver
that caused the ESC activation.
Cheers for the replies guys
The dealer has another 2011 for sale i will ask him to drive it around the car park to prove to me this click is normal before i leave the dealership.
Late reply but yes, I get this also. Especially noticeable going slowly through undeground carparks, loud click every dozen seconds or so which sounds like it's coming from underneath.
