Default instrument cluster

Hi
Does any one know if the instrument cluster on a 2011 Laredo can be changed for another.

my speedo is not working, when i dismantle the cluster the speedo needle is tight not free moving like the other needles

is it possible to just buy another from a wrecker and swap it out or are their VIN issues, dealer programming to be dealt with.

can you believe it mine has died, seems i get one problem fixed only to move onto the next

oh well what the expression "jeeps are built not bought" grrr

thanks

Good question, though I reckon they are VIN specific...

When i bought my WH Hemi Overland, it was a grey import from the UK and the speedo reading was in MPH...you could change the digital readout of distance travelled from miles to kms, but not the background of the speedo itself like you can on the WK2.
I bought a second hand cluster assembly and had the background swapped so it had the KMH readings. It was not possible to swap the whole cluster due to the information the on board computers got from things such as the distance travelled. If I put a new cluster in the on board computer would likely have a spak attack as all the readings would be different from what it had in memory.

Don't know where you are, but in Brisbane there is place called Lionel Otto Instuments over in Salisbury who specialise in gauge repairs that could probably fix the problem, but the instrument cluster assembly would have to be taken out and sent for repair....it is who I had do the job on my WH instrument cluster...

mate that's not the answer i wanted,( hahaha)

i had a look on YT and a guy showed how to do it on a RAM but a later model. using ALFA OBD, so i went out and hooked up to mine followed his steps but under "instrument panel" i didn't have the options

so looks like i have three options

live with it and use the EVIC

get mine fixed which means the car is off the road for a week or more

or get a replacement and have it programmed in advance (ill call the guy referred to and see what they say)

All Grand Cherokee in Melbourne has used changeover's on the shelf, I've seen them (well, last time I was in there a few months ago anyway). He'll also be able to tell you what's required re install/programming etc.

Default Fixed

so more arse than class, i rang around and it was going to cost me nearly $400
for a repair or to program a new unit

searched the internet, and every man and his dog had an opinion on weather programming is needed or not, some claim it will just display the highest reading either the clusters or the BCMs

so with not much to loose i decided to remove the cluster and have another look

the speedo needle swings but is tight, soooo

i got hold of the needle at the centre mounting point and reasoning that i had nothing to loose i swung it back and forth from minimum to max while applying inward pressure, and woop de do it freed up woo hoo.

stuck it all back together and it works, i wonder for how long, but being of Scottish decent im happy, if it fails again we will have to see i guess
