Was it at Jenolan?

Hey 037981
1 more thought, if you do swim it in the mud be sure to clean out the mud that will inevitable get stuck in the radiator, DO THIS VERY GENTLY - many JKers have already discovered that the fins in the radiator are not high pressure water cleaner proof - if you do use a HPWC you risk damaging the thin cooling vanes and a new radiator is not a cheap fix
cheers Hunty

The auto disconnecting sway bars on the Rubicon etc dont seem to like water to much, unsure what the solution to that problem is, but if you have this system something to watch for.

mate, im not sure about the auto box, it may be right if you extend breathers. but the problem with the manual is that the top of the box where the gearstick comes out is pretty much unprotected. there is a bit of high density foam around the top, whih touches the underbody of the vehicle and probably works as a dust seal, but it is not water proof. so if you go deeper than the recommended 500mm you risk filling the gearbox with water, as hunty did. if you have a lift you increase the wading depth by the amount of the lift. this is fact and should not be ignored in spite of stories you may hear to the contrary. some times you may get a lucky deep wade if everything seals perfectly. changing axle seals and stuff doesn't do a lot. an axle seal still rubs on the axle and can still leak. i know it's seems wierd but the fact is that in spite of the breathers on the axle if you dive into water with a hot vehicle and hot axles the axle will suck water in through the axle seals (strange but true).the best way to do it is to stop at the edge of the creek and let axles cool down for a few minutes before plunging in. it's slow but it saves money on repairs. axles touch water at about 350mm same as any other 4wd. the jk has a low fording depth at 500mm. most fourbies have a 700 to 750mm fording depth stock. but being american they are built more with climbing over boulders in mind, rather than swimming. in the states the rubicon trail is the go, not swimming.

Haven't had any troubles with water crossings, and all that I've done to the jeep is a snorkel, lift and usual stuff. Deepest water we crossed was at the pascoe river on the frenchmans track which was 1.1m and flowing quick.

I've got an MY10 manual petrol. I agree with Davidd regarding water getting into the gearbox. You lose your synchros after 100-200kms. If you are handy with an inspection mirror and decent torch, you can see the openings. It's a real pity that the car has been compromised by this gearbox.... and diff ratios.
