That's good you have mates to help you out. I'm going through alot of legal s#$t at the moment and don't want to see people getting caught up in it. I'm in Vic so it must be different. All the best I hope it turns out well for you. Cheers

My septic and waste water alone is going to cost me $9k and that is a cheap quote compared to getting tradies out from Launceston. I have been quoted the same to get my solar hot water installed, that included the system but is still something that I have NFI right now where I will get the money to fund those two projects. In my case I have to do what ever I can myself or the house will never be finished.

Regards A

AFAIK most councils are now steering clear of signing off on building work because of potential litigation. My council is an acception to the rules. But that would be the only good thing I have to say about them. I might add I only do simple jobs. If I have a builder on site I am more or less passing tools or holding things in place while they do the things that you need to know what you're doing.

Well I have some great news. I successfully applied for a early super hardship payment. I wrote a detailed letter to the company explaining that I have lived almost three years without a proper shower or toilet. I explained that I have to empty a shit tin each week and like I do boil the jug 4-5 times each night so I can have a wash, ready for work the next day. Well my application was granted and I am stoked. It is such a relief. My friends who are religious like me would understand that God has it under control, even though I have been ancxious as hell. Especially knowing that I owed a lot of money to Becks and a builder. But today I checked my account as I often do and was concerned at first to see approx $7k in my account...... LOL I thouht the bank had made some mistake, until I realised, they had granted my application and it was only sent off less than two weeks ago. So today I paid my builder what I owed him. I am also able to pay off Becks in full tomorrow. I worked out I have enough now if I am careful to get a builder out for 2-3 more days. I can get the plasterer out to flush al the gyprock joins. I also have an electrician coming out in one week to run the remaining cables down the other side of the house ready so that some ceiling sheets can go up on that side above the lounge in around two weeks. I should be able to save a bit over the next month to purchase tiles and gear for my tiler mate who arrives in around 4 weeks. I anticipate that by the end of this year I should be able to have basically one side of my house all done, including paint, which I will do myself. If the funds allow I might even have power on that side of the house. One thing is for sure I am on track to reaching my goal of having a wood heater in by March/April just in time for the cold. I anticipate that if I work hard and am careful with money I should be able to get my $9k solar hot water system installed by June/July next year, which I have been told I can get a substantial rebate on it through NILS Tasmania because I am a low income earner. I really can't see my house being complete by 1/12/16 when my pemit runs out but I have been told by council that I can apply for a 12 month extension, which is currently only $100 way better than what I was told around 2.5 years ago when my house and shed was only vision in my head..

9k for septic system is a steal.
If you ask me, I would go for the septic first as there are workarounds for solar hot water and on is a wood fire heater with water back. I looked at some with oven and cook top as well. I'm planning to put one in my house.

I have already spent half of what I received paying out what I owed. . I considered getting the septic but then the house wouldn't at all be useable until I can access more money. For my $7k I will have internal walls, a useable bathroom, if I decide to be sneaky. Plan is to get my mate with his tractor auger dig a hole behind the house and I will run a temp pipe to it for my dunny and cover it with villa board. Then I will run another off the shower to the vacant block next door. Unfortunately if I had a septic installed that would all I would I have. The bathroom would not have tiles, toilet shower or anything in it to make it useable. I am yet to get all the iron on the sides and there is $1.5k in doing the rest of that. Basically all the money I have received will be gone by mid December, if it lasts that long. Then I'm back to where I was spending $400-$500 once a month and not every month at that and everything progressing very slowly. I would also have no hope of buying a cheap car. Weighing it up getting a septic would mean having nothing else and an inability for me to do any of my own work on the house because I need tradesmen. It would mean weekend after weekend with nothing for me to do on my property except mow the grass once a week. I can get a no interest loan for the HWS around June/July, once I pay off my current NILS loan for my fridge, which I consequently got $600 off that too in Gov rebates. The NILS loan for the HWS will include a $3k rebate because I am a really low income earner. I trust that makes sense why I chose not to bother with a septic yet.

If that's the case everything like solar hot water, septic etc... can wait. 😁
At least you are moving along.
