What do you tow out of interest? Bout to drop a deposit on an Iconn E2. Not particularly concerned about the weight but still keen to hear about the experience of a fellow pentastar owner.

In most forums and groups when I ask I get the standard ‘buy the diesel’, but the pentastar is what I have and that’s not going to change

I tow a MDC Hybrid. Darn thing is a bit over 3T!!!

To be honest. We are changing up to a diesel. We literally have one of the last diesels off the boat. It’s a s-limited v6td.

We were worried the old girl will overheat when least expected in summer towing up the ranges. She has close to 180k so time to trade up.

We looked all over for a good tow vehicle that is AVAILABLE

patrol - April next year and interior stuck in the 90’s [emoji2961]
Amarok - great engine but reversing is dodgy due to torque limiting in reverse. We reverse the camper up a steep driveway - plus Amarok safety is questionable

All other 4 cylinder Utes were “beige” as in boring

300 series not available and too $$$

So back to old trusty WK2. I hope she will be as reliable as our 2015.

Yeah fair enough. I have put a lot of thought into whether I might upgrade the vehicle and came to the same conclusions as you pretty much.

For me, I own my GC outright and any upgrade is going to cost significant coin which I’d rather not part with. As I’ve said before, I’m not really bothered if it’s slow or if I have to manage revs or gears, and I’m sure it’s effortless in other more powerful vehicles, but a new (second hand) vehicle brings with it lots of unknowns which is a risk I’d rather not take. I’ve owned this vehicle from new and am covert comfortable with it.

I have decided that if I am unhappy with the towing of the pentastar that I will probably go down the supercharger route because it is comparatively quite cheap. It’s a common upgrade on the wrangler but pretty rare on the GC from what I can see.

I’ve spent the last couple of years renting campers off camplify and towing 1.8t up the Clyde was next to no problem at all (I was quite surprised.) so I’m anticipating an extra 200 odd kilos being alright

I had planned to go fishing then the wind came, stuff it, sick of the damn wind and this Jeep will last a few more years, replacement will be something nice about 2/3 yrs old and the 50K kms on clock, it certainly wont be a WL or a WK2 petrol as I need tow capacity...... This wagon is just at 90K so at about 280K km I will start looking that should be in about 5 years on the usual distance each year, maybe a smicko 2021WK2 oil burner again.
Today I did bugga all to the Jeep but should have given it a tubs as its a mess.

Nice plan drover, but have a feeling there won't be too many 5 year old MY21 diesel's on the market. I reckon more owners buying this year's model will hang on to 'em long as possible. Replacement options in 5 years are not looking too pretty. Hope I get to be proven wrong on both counts though.
