I think for general touring most people would be fine with the Ally bar. It will have a winch mount and offer decent protection from an animal strike. Granted an ally bar can't hold up as well to and animal strike as a steel bar, there is a chance that it itself will need replacing while the vehicle will come out with out serious drama. Depending on the size of the animal and speed of impact that ally bar could come off with out needing to be replaced.
A steel bar is heavy, but offers the best protection from trees, animals or whatever. If you often drive in areas with kangaroos there their is no real question that steel will be best. This is one reason ARB far outsells ECB.
