Default Anyone installed the rhino backbone system?

I have been looking at various roof racks, I like the look of the rhino rack back bone system. Has anyone installed this system themselves? drilling into the hard top makes me a little nervous. Can anyone give me an idea of the difficulty in doing this myself?

I installed the system on my 07 unlimited. It requires removing the hardtop, or at least undoing all fastenings and lifting the front. I installed it when they first became available and there were no youtube vids at the time. It's a few hour job after reading up on it. Overall I am fairly happy with it the only thing I don't really like is the inside of the rear mounts stick up approx 2 mm. I think this may have been avoidable by sitting the bracket on the roof and marking before drilling rather than relying on the templates. Also there is a different hardtop from 11 on I don't know if the rear changed at all but that could also explain the difference. I'dd do it myself again especially with the benefit of you tube.

If you like the look, but want a stronger system, there is also a rhino rack designed in collaboration with AEV. It looks similar but mounts to the roll cage so it's as strong as can be.

backbone - weaker but can remove hard top more easily, although has to be used with hard top - comes as tray or 3 bars system

AEV - much stronger but removing hard top becomes a big job, can use without hard top - comes as a tray but can be used to mount 2 bars

I went for the AEV because I also got a rooftop tent, and wanted maximum strength

Jeep Konnection sell the AEV product

I fitted my rhino rack pioneer platform on to my 4 door JK. STATIC load is 360 KG so unless you are having a weight watchers party camp out on top you should be right for a rooftop tent.
You do not need to remove your hard top, but you will need to slide it back 30 cms or so.

I sikaflexed the holes I drilled as well as using the gaskets.

It took about 3 hours but it would have been 30 mins. less if I actually read all the instros the first time.

Doing it yourself.. depends on your skill with tools. Are you a barista? pay someone. Do you own quality tools and know how to use them? go for it. If you are in SE suburbs melbourne come have a look.. I did the job with no assistance ( the platform is not that lightweight, watch your back when u lift it onto the roof!!)

AND.. most importantly, you can still easily remove/replace the freedom panel things.

Cheers, Mick

yeah I think 360kg isn't enough for a roof top tent to be honest

2 average sized adults plus the tent should be well under 360kg shouldn't it?
Not to mention it's a static load, I wouldn't like to cruise around and take corners with 360kg up there but an empty tent should surely be fine.
