Melbourne beach drives
Anyone know of any spots locally in Melbourne ie:back beaches or something like that that permit 4WD access.

You can drive in the Portland dunes - but you have to join the Portland Buggy Club. Beachport / Robe for me - but not local - good 5 hr drive - but great place and there is proabably 3-4 days of different drives you could do

Robe and Beachport are really an extended weekend trip. Day there, day to enjoy and a day back....
If you have a windy day then it may be a day more. It really is a Summer trip as it's fairly ordinary any other time.
The lakes at the back of Robe are a teriffic fishing spot. Hooked the biggest Bream of my life there. Broke my rod, but he still came in.
You have to break the trip at Portland and ride the Portland Tram.....

Portland
Portland dunes are fantastic, i spent a weekend down there in feb this year, was hot and windy but really made no difference. Heaps of camping areas and when you book they give you a map of how to get there and can also supply the flag needed for your vehicle. The dunes are approx 20kms from Portland. There is plenty to explore, can drive for hours and not get to the end of the park. Have plenty of photos too if intersted.
