I use an old Waeco 90l that is almost ten years old. It also required a repair early in its life due to jumping my Patrol, and bouncing the fridges compressor out of its mounts. It has been across the Simson four times and on extended trips into the outback, and down into the Victorian High Country on many more occasions. It has explored Fraser Island several times, and spent something like one hundred weekends in the abundant 4WD parks we have here in Northern NSW.
Although it is really a bit big for the TJ, after you have gotten used to 90l., its difficult to imagine being happy with a smaller one.
I'm really glad I didn't have the idea of putting it on e-bay nine years ago...... ;)

Got a 40l Waeco fitted to the rear of my TJ. Works fine since 4 years and no problems (no rear seats !!!). Has enough space for two on an extended trip as we do at the moment. Not very heavy when you have to take it out of teh car and into the camper trailer. Would prefer plastic outer above metal all the time. However many friends with Cruisers and Patrols swear on Engel and they also have had no problems in the last years.

Very versatile because the height and volume can change. I can have 52l for camping and then change the lid to make it 37l and put it in the boot of my commodore for daytrips when the jeep isnt needed.
Current draw is only 0.66 amphours per hour (16a/h per day) and has built in and programmable battery monitor (no flat batteries:) )
This pic only shows 42L configuration (can be converted to 35L, 42L, 45L or 52L - all included when you buy the unit) - Digital readout instantly shows int. temp & can freeze down to -22C uneffected by ambient temperatures below 55C.

Bushman gets my vote. Has won every 'unbiased' test that matters - Australian Defence Industries Laboratories testing. Uses less amperage and stays cold longer - refer Defense Force Test Results as posted in 4wd Monthly. can be repaired by anyone (virtually 'plug & play') and far more versatile with variable zones for Freezer / Dairy / Crisper. easy to access & clean & takes up no more real estate in the back of the Cherokee than the old esky ( yet holds 52 litres! ) and one bloke can handle it easily. I have spoken with many users & yet not found one unhappy customer - several still going strong after 7 years. Steel body / polycarbonate lids & S/S latches - built to just keep on doing what it does better than the rest. Include it in your research & you will own one too, unless you need one unit larger (in which case you could buy 2 of these & still be in front).

I thought the Bushman was a re-badged Engel, an end of the model thing. I have a 60 litre waeco and it has been faultless on the many trips I have been on.
