As the title says. What does this flat box do you the airflow/intake?

Wouldn't it be better to remove this and put the intake pipe directly onto the TB?

It was fitted to cut down in intake roar, all it does is rob power by reducing airflow....

Thought so!

When I had it off to unplug the CPS I was replacing I just couldn't figure out why it was there.

Can I just remove it and fit the intake pipe to the TB?

What you want is one of these which were only fitted to the OBD1's, so 94's and 95's....

Also, inside the ribbed part of the intake tube on these OBD1 intake boots (as on my 95), there is a hugely restrictive venturi in there you can yank out and REALLY open up the flow. It's crazy just how much it restricted the flow on mine... ridiculous. Jeep-xj.info explains it here;

Hmm.. Can't i just remove the box and fit some bent pipe to the flex hose?

I'll have to have a better look over the weekend while I'm looking for my coolant leak!!!
