Default 97 xj-td computer swap with 98 xj-td

Is the computer the same for the 97 xj-td as it is in the 98 xj?
Can I just swap them over ?

1. You might have to use DRBIII to program immo. I'm not sure wich - PCM or ECM holds immo key. Worth a try anyway.
2. Somewhere in 99 they started to use MAF+MAP sensors, thus - different motor wiring and different ECM. Just keep in mind.

First, Hi to our friend from Moscow

If you are talking about the computer inside behind the heater, make sure they both have the same number of pins on the socket for the plugs. i dont know if it will work. There may be an issue with the security system.

Going to depend what key they use.
If 97 has black tipped key and immobiliser fob , its not controlled by PCM.
If 98 has gold tipped key , your screwed .
Skim is meant to be coded to PCM
Give it a go though

Ok then - PCM is the computer under dashboard - and Jumunji-XJTD is showing ECM on the photo. Thus - the change should be ok.

Never heard of dead ECM. I wonder why to make such swap.

cant comment directly on the Diesel ECM, but with the '95-'97 4.0 models, ECM failure is reported.

apparently the causes are; solder pins inside need re-soldering, poor connection to computer via harness, blown capacitor, (often caused by a short-circuit in the torque converter solenoid.)

On these models, the computer has a part number on a white label, which will be P50641..in small figures, then separately in much bigger numbers "252" or "287" etc. This is visible without removing the plastic cover..but hard to see

so an early '96 petrol auto is part num P50641252, later P50641287

check Rock Auto, or Parts Manual

these computers can be swapped, but I also do not know about post anti-theft vehicles..doubtful

New skim codes can be programmed into the PCM.
