Cheers i will investigate glow plugs.

I have been looking for air in the lines but i havent seen any bubble.

I took the cap off the bleed valve and could hear air being sucked past the ball valve. Should the ball alone be enough to maintain fuel in the lines or does it need the cap to seal it off?

Im just trying to eliminate the easy things first.

Cheers

No cap it will fill with crap................run your engine then after shutdown look at fuel lines air usually works it way back to the filter line a small bubble is not anything to worry about though, I've had one there for years.
Been trying to remember what caused mine to do the same thing, I fixed it but just can't think what I did, I'm pretty sure it was air in fuel issue though.
and pull the plastic engine cover off and hang it in the shed.

So I have checked glow plug resistance and all is fine there. Need to investigate air in lines further

I have changed 5 O rings including lift pump, H/P pump and the one that goes from pump to the back of the rail. I cant located the 6th one that is mentioned in previous posts unless that is counting the O rings on the filter.

Has anyone made a DIY injector leak test kit? I watched someone on you tube just shove a 3mm hose into his volvo injectors so probably bosch which seemed to work. Any ideas?

The first thing I did when I purchased the car was remove the cover to keep an eye on things but thanks for the advice.

Cheers

There was an old post from piper that showed the results from his home made one but I don't recall if he went into detail. Looking at it and the bought ones though it does appear that all they are is some tubing and in our case 5 receptacles. Can't say I've done mine though to be sure of the connection.

Leak back test kit on ebay for about $30, brilliant bit of kit saves a lot of stuffing around.
If youv'e changed the O rings and still have air in lines, toss the filter it is probably dodgy, some are stuffed from new no matter what the brand as most are made in the same place just differn't paint.

There are:

2 on the HP Pump
2 and the Lift Pump
1 at the back of the fuel rail
1 on the fuel filter.

Looks like you missed the fuel filter, shouldn't be a major problem though.

Easier to spend $30 on eBay and buy one IMHO. You could shove some suitable hose into or over the return fitting, it will do the same thing.
