Default 2022 Gladiator Locked itself whilst keys were inside and engine running

Hi guys,
I have a 2022 Jeep gladiator that has just had its first 12,000km service 1 week ago.
My wife just went to go out in the Jeep, drove up to our front gate, got out with engine running to open the gate... walked back to car only to find it had locked itself with keys inside and the engine running.

Fortunately, she was only 50m from the house and we ran up the spare key to open it.

In the event this happens, and one didn't have the spare key nearby, how the heck does one shut down the engine given it locked us out of the car?

Has anyone ever had a recent model Jeep do this?

You need a spare hidden on the outside of the jeep. Just one that is not chipped so it cant be used to run the car. Its been a problem in cars for decades. You bump the door lock button as you get out & then shut the door. I have done it with my XJ & KJ. Its a 1/2 mile walk for me from the front gate to the house. If a car doesnt have a conventional blade key it is a problem.

Just tried to emulate your problem and couldn't. Tried several different locations for the key and the only place the key couldn't be detected was in the driver's door pocket but only with the door open.
I would be changing the fob battery as a precaution.

This has never happened to me in a preupdate XJ, but I have strapped a copy of a key under the car when doing remote travel.

In more civilised parts, I have often locked my keys in the car, when the fob became inoperable. Now I can't lock myself out because there is always at least one door lock that is sticky and may need a manual press to lock (except in rain).

My old man used to have an EL Falcon with the smartlock feature. The door locks used to open and close on their own while I was outside (and keys in ignition). The only way I could get in was through the emergency airlock.
