4wds Are Not Driveway Demons
Just got this in a email kind of make you think why they are picking on the 4wds hey
Quote:
4WDS ARE NOT DRIVEWAY DEMONS
For the third year in a row, the comprehensive Reversing Visibility Index study, carried out by NRMA Insurance, reveals that 4WD vehicles are not the driveway demons some self-appointed safety experts claim.
The death or injury of child, caused by a reversing vehicle, is tragic. However, apportioning most of the blame on 4WD vehicles is not supported by facts. As the NRMA results show, visibility during reversing has little to do with the physical size of the vehicle. Many people (incorrectly) believe that ‘size’ determines visibility; whereas the position of the vehicle’s driver and the baseline of the rear window are the criteria.
Toyota’s Landcruiser 100-Series wagon is a good example. For, despite the fact that it would be considered ‘large’ by most observers, the Landcruiser’s rear vision is superior to that of the majority of vehicles tested.
According to the comprehensive report, based on tests of current vehicles in July 2006, the 100-Series Landcruiser has better rear visibility than:
100% of the Medium cars, 91% of the Commercial vehicles, 90% of the People-Movers, 87% of the Large cars, 80% of the Luxury cars, 72% of the Sports cars, 64% of the Small-Medium cars, and (believe it or not) 50% of the Small cars.
Of the 40 4WDs tested, 36 had better rear visibility than Holden’s Commodore and 38 had better rear visibility than Mitsubishi’s recently-released 380 sedan.
Only two vehicles were awarded a 5-Star rating: Ford’s 4WD/2WDTerritory and the Lexus GS430 sedan. Results achieved with rear-vision cameras.
The data above was calculated using NRMA Insurance statistics.

Yeah, exactly Kyro. My work commodore was impossible to see out the back of when reversing. Holden give you a reversing sensor that just beeps quicker before you hit something.
Someone's message on here states "Mass Media Killed my 4x4" and to save this from happening, more articles like this need to be produced. I saw something on the tv the other night about it.

I guess NRMA are trying to attract 4WD owners again after loosing a heap of them with their article about how 4wd's are killing machines. Tend to take anything the NRMA has to say with a pinch of salt these days

I worked in the NRMA panel shop in Brookvale(which is no longer there) for a few months.
The real meaning of NRMA is;
Nothing Really Matters Anymore.

Nothing Really Matters Anyway
just as a side note to brainwashing.
I witnessed a pretty nasty accident today.. where a little red car had jammed onhis brakes to avoid some other car who decided at the last minute to turn left.
behind the red car was a grey nomad on his bike whom incidently collected the right rear of the red car.. shattering his leg(bone protuding through his jeans).anyway.. as I was witness I hung around to wait for the police,,as you do.a bloke walks by,, see;s a group of us waiting for the police while the ambo's do thier thing.. and all he was concerned abotu was the white pajero parked behind the motorbike ride.. blocking traffic to prevent any more drama's. His questions to me (I dont think he saw my JEEP parked across the road)
Did you see what happened?
Me: yes I did.
Him: did that 4wd hit him?
Me:No.. he collected that red car who braked hard in front of him
Him:so the 4wd ran over him?
Me:No mate.. the 4wd stopped to help and is blocking traffic to prevent any more incedents
Him: did you see the 4wd hit him??
Me: the 4wd had nothing to do with it
Him: oh it looks like that guy in the red car was hit from behind,, did the 4wd do that?
Me: No mate. the bike hit the red car. the 4wd is a witness and is also helping the guy out.
him. oh..that 4wd would of killed him if it ran over him I guess.
man I was so pissed with this old idiot. but was more concerned about the poor guy on the bike.
