Lightbulb Can you put the 8sp into 2011-13 wk2? 🤔

Planning on getting a hemi wk2 overland,
Ideally I'd like an 8sp but the price difference is pretty big compared to the 5sp. Wondering how much hard it'd be to get the computer to work with an upgraded box.

I'll be interested in anyone's experience with this as well, but I have to say, the Merc 5sp ain't a bad box at all! Been very happy with mine.

I don't think it is doable without major mods like adapter plate on bellhousing, probably custom drive shaft, more hassles with transfer case and interfacing it all with the ECU and all the sensors. Surely won't be cheaper than buying the 8 speed ZF in the first place.

My guess is it would be cheaper to sell your car and buy one with an 8 speed, firstly yours wont be worth any more and actually will be a mix match when ordering parts. Secondly the newer car will cost more money, but it is a newer car, so in reality is worth more.
Just my thoughts

It would be a great project for sure, cost a monza though and finding someone to sort the software, big question would the 8 speed TCM talk to the ECU be like a restoration I think, need plenty of time and $$$. Certainly new shafts, mounts, extra cooling, etc then the big question, would it fit as I recall the 5 speed is a bit leaner than these 8's....while I found the 5 to be a great box this 8 speed still leaves a smile on my dial.

All in all, inspiring so don't forget the pics...........

Not a chance, the software is unique to the 8sp boxes & NO ONE as made a TCU for this transmission yet. There are TCU's for the 6sp however.
