Independent suspension can articulate quite well but to do it very long arms are needed and very long shocks. Just look at modern off road racing buggies. Ours for example flexes much more than my TJ but it is a whole lot wider as well. It has worse road manners than my TJ though by far! This just shows it's more about how it is engineered and designed than what system it uses. In saying that though live axle are obviously easier to engineer well for 4WD use and IS is easier to engineer for road manners. The Wrangler is Jeep's flagship off road model so I am sure they will keep it capable off road. Otherwise they'll just have a whole line up of soft roaders and maybe lose their image as an off road company.
My $0.02 anyway.

Agree. I think they will keep at least one off road model in their line with live axles. And it will be obviously wrangler.

Or they will make two versions? Sport / Safari with IFS and Rubicon with live? Who knows.

I don't know about others, but I love the way it drives on the road. I don't like to drive like in an elevator. I like to feel and hear the street.

live axle is dead - 70's cruiser is being discontinued globally in 2013 due to poor sales
nissan GU patrol only has 2 years left of production then replaced by ifs
landrover is going ifs in 2014

An IFS Wrangler would be possible if Chrysler was a car company not only a marketing company.

In the meantime they will just go on doing what's cheap and easy, doesn't require a whole lotta brain power and maximises re-use of old parts they find stockpiled in warehouses.
