Default GoPro tips and advice?

Just splurged a Myer's bonus gift card and picked up a GoPro Hero3 Black and a suction cup mount.

Been playing with it tonight, setting up the wifi monitoring and remote control on Galaxy S3 phone (thats pretty cool) and just filming the fish tank to learn the controls.

The idea of the thread is to ask others who have them for tips and tricks to get the most out of it. Thinking of getting the LCD touch screen backpac for it and ideally another battery but a remote charger for the second battery?? Havent seen them yet.

well mate congrats on ur go pro your gonna love it!!

1st thing first its easy to get confused with the controlls is it on or not : is it recording...?

so first thing is first u want an LCD screen

2nd the battery does not last long (however i dont beleive u can have more than 1 accessory plugged in at a time.) so, easy solution as u have it mounted on your windscreen it does not need to be water proof so u can buy a cable and plug it into your cigarette lighter plug.

you now have 1920x1080PHD video with a display screen and long battery life.
make sure you go into the options and set the resolution as mine was not on max.
720P HD is plenty especially if your uploading to you tube also it has a faster frame rate.

Default GoPro tips and advice?

The wifi will kill the battery quickly, just use the wifi to set the framing then switch it off, the battery will last much longer

I've had a Hero 3 for a couple of months now and still figuring out how to get the best out of it. There's a wealth of info at www.goprouser.freeforums.org

I have an Android tablet mounted on my dash which I use to control the camera. You have to buy The Frame to run external power, otherwise you have to drill a hole in your waterproof case which kind of defeats the purpose of it. I use a cig plug to supply power to the camera. I originally tried to run power from my tablet but you can't run the Gopro app at the same time.

You can search the site I mentioned above, there's a couple of threads mentioning a cheap aftermarket battery charger.

I wouldn't race out and get the LCD backpack straight away, just film everything in hi Res and then crop it. For still photography shoot it all in wide as reducing the size just reduces the area that the sensor uses, so when you crop your photos you don't loose any of the picture quality. I was going to get the backpack screen too but I've decided to give it a miss as you only have to point the camera in the general direction and you'll get the shot. Also the backpack is really heavy on the battery.

Thanks guys. Some good info there. The Frame sounds like a great idea for in the car. Have worked all the controls out but the missus wants the LCD backpack so we see pics and vids while still out having fun.

Just noticed some external battery chargers but then it will probably be used in the car most of the time anyway for now.

Sent automatically by my stupid phone while I was busy working. Honest boss....

What editors do people use on the resulting videos? I have just downloaded the GoPro free one but haven't had much of a play with it yet. Someone told me today to look up after effects from Adobe, just did but find its cloud based and available by annual subscription @ $20 a month (yeah, tell you its annual only then quote monthly...)
